Every October 22, International Stuttering Awareness Day invites us to listen to people who stutter, challenge old myths, and remind families they are not alone.
This year, ISAD has special meaning for the Stuttering Foundation. In 2027, we will mark 80 years of helping people who stutter and supporting their families.
Today, we are delighted to unveil our 80th anniversary logo. You will see it alongside many new stories, videos, and resources over the coming year, a familiar sign of the voices that shaped the Foundation and the work still ahead.
Our longstanding promise, “The World’s Most Trusted Resource on Stuttering,” is earned one person and one family at a time.
My father, Malcolm Fraser, founded the Foundation in 1947 because he knew how deeply stuttering can affect a life. He wanted others to have something he had often lacked: a trusted place to turn.
Today, our books, videos, and other resources reach people in more than 168 countries. Our purpose remains to make sure each person finds the help they need.
Awareness begins with small choices. A teacher gives a student time to speak. A friend resists finishing a sentence. A parent seeks reliable guidance. A child discovers a successful person who stutters and thinks, “I am not the only one!”
This ISAD, share an accurate fact or recommend a resource. Above all, listen patiently. That simple act says: your words matter.
As we approach our anniversary, we will celebrate people who stutter. Eighty years is a milestone, and we have more work to do to make help easier to reach.
Please join us: learn something, share something, and listen a little more closely. Together, we can build a future in which every person who stutters is heard and respected.
Here’s to the voices that brought us this far and all the voices still to come.
