Kendrick Lamar, who is on our list of Famous People Who Stutter, led the 2026 Grammys with nine nominations and set the record as the most-awarded rapper in the event's history after winning for Best Rap.

According to Wikipedia, Kendrick Lamar is regarded as one of the greatest rappers of all time, he was awarded the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Music, becoming the first musician outside of the classical and jazz genres to receive the award. Rooted in West Coast hip-hop, Lamar's music features conscious, introspective lyrics, with political criticism and social commentary concerning African-American culture.

Lamar was born on June 17, 1987, in Compton, California. Lamar and his family lived in Section 8 housing, were reliant on welfare and food stamps, and experienced homelessness.

In school, Lamar was a quiet and observant student who excelled academically and had a noticeable stutter. Lamar’s seventh grade English teacher introduced him to the world of rhymes and metaphors, and he was immediately hooked, according to media reports.

"You could put all your feelings down on a sheet of paper, and they'd make sense to you," he says. "I liked that."

Lamar never let his stutter hold him back. “As a kid, I used to stutter. I think that’s why I put my energy into making music. That’s how I get my thoughts out.”

As of February 2026, Lamar has set a new record at the 2026 Grammy Awards, becoming the most-awarded rapper in history with 27 wins, surpassing Jay-Z’s previous record of 25. In addition, he’s captured  two Primetime Emmy Awards, five American Music Awards, 37 BET Hip Hop Awards (the most won by any artist), 11 MTV Video Music Awards (including two Video of the Year wins), 7 Billboard Music Awards, and a Brit Award.
