In this presentation,  Sharon Millard, Ph.D., RegMRCSLT, RegHCPC, European Fluency Specialist, of the Michael Palin Centre in London, reviews research that informs us about what school-aged children and parents hope to gain through therapy and considers the implications for therapy.  She discusses Solution Focused Brief Therapy as an approach to exploring hopes and expectations so that therapists and families can work together toward goals and outcomes that are relevant and meaningful to individual clients. While the focus is on school-aged children who stutter, the principles discussed are relevant for other ages and client groups.
